Xconfigurator is the Red hat configuration program, if you don't have RH then you 
probably don't
have it either. you can run XFree86 -configure you will still probably have to hack 
your
XF86Config[-4] file. Usually the monitor does not give problems (if it is not 
prehistorical), your
problems are due to the 810 chip set try using the vesa driver temporarily (it is not 
accelerated
but should work well enough for everything but games and image processing) stick also 
temporarily
with depth 16.
Post both Xf86Config[-4] (I don't know whether slackware also uses the -4 for X 4.x.x) 
and the log
(if possible obtained by redirecting startx 2>mylog)
then it will be easier for people to help...
