Yes, works absolutely fine in text mode. The XFree86 server installs and runs fine. When it installed, it recognized my graphics chip (ATI Rage Mobility 128) - I chose to install a "Generic LCD 1400 x 1050" and it works. The problem only occurs when I shutdown the X server to return to text mode. It also occurs when I shutdown/poweroff from inside a console window running X. Something One clue (or unrelated coincidence??) about what may be going on: for some reason, after a lockup, the next time I boot the system has difficulty initializing eth0. > > And what exactly do you mean by "system locks up"? As soon as I exit the X server, the screen slowly fades and the system is completely unresponsive. I have to shut down power and turn it back on to reboot. Thanks for your help. I'm really dead in the water right now... _______________________________________________ Newbie mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie
