OK, now for the latest...(and some more info...)

I forgot to take the notes home last night but remembered some of it...

The only error that shows up when I pipe the output is
"not enough disc space in /tmp"

This is very odd, because I emptied /tmp.

Also, some other info -
This is all happening as root

Since I'm the only person, I usually run as root. Is there some info being
generated
as root that could have blown up the start-up files to be too large to fit
in /tmp?

When I startx as a user, I get a Redhat/Gnome logo, then a blank X screen.
Apparently, I need to copy the set-up files (wherever they are and whatever
they're
called) to an appropriate user directory (wherever that is) to get the
menus, applets, etc to display. Some guidance (even the appropriate man
pages,
I don't seem able to find those either...arghhh) is greatly appreciated...

Barring solutions today, I'll take yesterday's notes home and work on it
some
over the weekend. Or (yuck) set up my girlfriend's W98 system to go on-line
and
contact from there...

Thanks for your patience
