It does work, but only at depths 1, 4 and 8.

4.*'s ATI driver started as a port of the same (unaccelerated) driver from
3.3*, not of XF86_Mach*.  I've yet to move XF86_Mach{32,64}'s RAMDAC
handling to 4.*.
