Naw, man, ya gotta free yourself from that Microsoft mindset. 
Re-installing stuff doesn't fix anything, it just clobbers your
configuration.  Configuration is controlled by simple text files that
are kept under /etc or in your $HOME.  The stuff under /usr doesn't wear
out or rust unless you keep "re-installing" it -- just get any
configuration files that you change out of /usr/X11R6/lib/X11 (some
archaeological systems still keep 'em there).

To enter the inner circle of Unix, my son, you must forget the three Rs
of Microsoft:  Retry, Reboot, Re-install.
