Quick background ...
Systems: Mac OS X 10.1.2 on a G3 beige, and a G4 TiPB
Using the Installer from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/xonx/XInstall_10.1.sit
(XInstall from InstallAnywhere Version 4.5)
XFree86: Version 4.2.0
XDarwin installed: Version ?
Remote Systems to which I wish to connect: Recent release Linux OS boxes
Me: Extreme novice when it comes to this X-Windows stuff... I have used MacX (long ago) and use X-Win32 at work, and am used to the ability to configure and start X-windows sessions on remote systems via the X-Win32 config app. XDarwin/Xfree86 appear very similar to X-Win32, but that configuration piece seems to be missing (or I cannot find it!)
Anyway, after installing via I get the cool red X in the OS X Dock for XDarwin. I click on it, and the application starts up. Questions...
1. I get 3 terminal windows (not X-terminals) within XDarwin. One of them is huge -- so huge that its bottom edge is offscreen and I cannot get to it to resize it. Is there a way to resize a window differently, other than the mouse/drag thing?
2. Mac OS X has a toggle for "Allow remote login" under the Sharing/Application window. Do I need to toggle this on?
3. After starting XDarwin, how the heck do I connect to the remote Linux box and have it display its windows within the XDarwin environment? I don't even know where to begin, as far as commands / configuration go. I reviewed this email list, and all the available (obvious) docs on the various websites. They all tell how to install, but not actually how to use the stuff. The Xfree86 pointed me to "man xinit" after install, but the installer did not put anything there.
How do I tell the remote system that I have an X-windows server running on the Mac? Do I need to set a display setting? Is there other config/setup stuff I need to do?
If there is a good beginner's document or book somewhere, please point me to that. I don't mind reading the docs and figuring stuff out ... I just cannot find the docs!
Thanks!
