Rolf,

I hope I can help you.

1) Take a look at your .xinitrc to see what you are getting as
your initial windows at startup. Elminiate what you don't want.
Note that twm is the last entry on purpose and you likely should
leave it alone. You might want to tweak the other xterm entries
   or elminately them entirely.

2) You can allow remote login if you like, but that's not related
to the problem you're describing. If you want to allow remote
   access that is your preference.

3) On your MacOS X box do this:

      login as root
      run 'xhost +'

[You might want to do a man on xhost and choose just the IP address
   of your remote box.]

On your remote box do this (set the DISPLAY environment variable):

      export DISPLAY=MacOSXBox:0.0
      xterm&

where "MacOSXBox" is the host name or IP address of your MacOS X
system. After you do 'xterm' you should see an xterm from your
remote box on your MacOS X box.

I think volume 3 of the O'Reilly series on X Windows might be a
good start on X windows from the user's point of view.

[I have MacOS X 10.1.2 and XFree86 4.1.0 running with WindowMaker
and can create windows on my home box from work without a problem
using the above method.]

Enjoy!
