Installed the 'minimal' version of FreeBSD 4.5 and downloaded the X
binaries (4.2.0) and installed them myself.
After configuring the X server using XFree86 -configure, it says to
run XFree86 -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new, and when I do that, it
barfs witht his message in the log file:

I have had very similar results when trying xf86config and xf86cfg.
I had this same kind of problem with Slackware 8 and eventually
fixed it (acting on a friend's tip) by reinstalling the OS and
choosing '1024x768' from the lilo.conf menu (!!!! ????), but
that was a Slackware/setup thing and obviously not avaiable on FreeBSD.
Where do I go from here ?? I do apologize if this sounds rather basic, but
xfree86.org removed their FAQ, the man pages aren't any help, and I don't
know what to do.
