EIA-RS232 specifies a D shell connector with 25 pins in two rows. Many PeeCee serial ports use a D shell connector with 9 pins in two rows. What D shell means here is that if you look into the disconnected connector, the shell is shaped like the letter D. Normal, vacuum-tube PC monitors use a 15 pin connector specified by VESA. The shell is the same as the 9-pin serial port connector, but inside are 15 pins in three rows. I don't really know anything about digital flat-panel displays, but a quick Google found this: http://www.cable4pc.com/dfp.htm which has nice pictures of various monitor cable connectors, all of which seem to have the D-shaped shell, but none look anything like RS232. > Let's suppose it is like that one.
