If you have a true digital flat panel display, it requires a special video card with a DVI out connector. It is, as far as I know, a unique connector, and doesn't look anything like a RS-232 connector. On the other hand, if you have an analog flat panel, it should connect to the standard VGA monitor connector on your PC, and there would be no need to tell the software to use another connector.
