Hello all.

I'm trying to enable dual monitor support on a box running a fresh
install of Red Hat 7.1 (kernel 2.4.2, XFree86 4.0.3). I have an NVidia
GForce2 AGP card, and a 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI card, both connected to
Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 200 monitors.

I found the Xinerama HOWTO, and under its guidance I was able to produce
XFree86Config files that worked when either one card or the other was
installed. That is, when the NVidia is physically removed, the system
works just fine using the 3dfx, and, it also works fine when only the
NVidia is installed. The system even works fine with both cards
physically attached, but only the NVidia configured to be used by X.
The trouble starts when I try to use both cards together, or the 3dfx by
itself, when both cards are physically installed. While both monitors
do get a signal, they are blank, and the machine locks up hard, forcing
me to reboot. I'm using GNOME 1.2.4 for my window manager, if that
makes any difference.

I know there are more recent versions of the kernel and of XFree86
available, but trying to install their RPMs threw me into a tangle of
dependencies that eventually forced me to give up and reinstall from
scratch. So, I'm hoping I can get a two-monitor set-up working before I
start braving upgrades again.

I don't have my configuration files available at the moment (victims of
the reinstall), but I can recreate them if necessary, and really I did
nothing more than what was instructed in the Xinerama HOWTO. I verified
by cut-and-paste that each device/monitor/screen combination worked by
itself for each card, so I am confident there were no typos. The
relationship between the screens was simple: "Screen1" RightOf
"Screen0". Both were going to run at the same resolution and same color
depth, and both cards are capable of the requested resolutions
(1152x864x16).

I'll be happy to provide any additional information necessary, and feel
free to steer me towards any documentation I may have missed. This is
my first real tinkering with X, and it's becoming a daunting challenge!
