An *horrible* suggestion...
usually RH 7.x installs both 4.x.x and 3.3.6
In case it did for you have you tried using 3.3.6?
two possibilities:
1. for config I believe you can use a parameter (-prefer3 or something like that try 
man your
config prog)
2. backup your /etc/X11/X by renaming it X4 for instance and recreate X as a symlink 
to an
*appropriate* 3.3.6 server (at worse the *universal* XF86_SVGA (it should also be in
/usr/X11R6/bin at worst use locate...) then /etc/X11/XF86Config will be the file to 
hack
