As you are going to have to transcribe the paper notes anyway, why not dodge programming and use GPSU? (see http://www.gpsu.co.uk/ ) Mike Harris

If so, you can write a very simple program which takes your list of notes, and the GPX file downloaded from the GPS receiver, pull the trackpoints out, compare their timestamps against your notes, and turn them into a waypoints .gpx file. Then you load it into JOSM, and there are your waypoints. I own a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx and started to record tracks while cycling taking notes on paper with timestamps provided by the GPS itself. Now I importet the gpx file as new layer in JOSM, but how can I display the timestamps to sync my notes to the track? Cheers, Cornelius
