I just posted this to the Q&A area on the Forum, but I think this may be a better place; sorry for the duplication and that I didn't think of it sooner.
If an area way is labeled "Amenity/School" the entire area has a characteristic color on the web map as rendered by either Mapnik or Osmarender. If an area way is labeled "Amenity/Library" it effectively vanishes from the map, although you can still see it in Edit mode. That seems odd.
