Even more simple than using fdisk would be to use a Knoppix cd. Type in "sudo -s" to get root access, and then run cfdisk. It does the same job as fdisk, only it's - graphical and user-friendly (as graphical as you can get in a terminal window). It might be worth your time to use fdisk simply because it's available on any computer. You never know when you'll need to partition something and don't happen to have a Knoppix cd with you.

uh... reformat?

I think what Wade is getting at here is most likely when you put in your winders CD, it will allow you to format the entire disk. But, as was pointed out earlier, fdisk is easy enough though it may not be necessary. I usually just let the Linux installers nuke winders, I mean in your case, the winders installer nuke Linux...

yeah you can try everything that's been said, but In my experience, sometimes windows does not like to see linux partitions. Even to delete them! so you may want to use your linux rescue CD to get it to work. linux fdisk is a little complicated, but here's how you start.

boot into rescue mode.
then at the command prompt type in:

fdisk /dev/hda

this will bring you to a command prompt.
delete all of your partitions and then write it to the partition table (? should show you how to do all of this)

Then install windows
