I am using kppp as my dialer. As you can see below, I finally got the login script right -- I think so anyway, since it told me it was starting a session and gave me a Primary server IP.
Below is the output that shows up in the Login Script Debug Window: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ATZ OK ATM0L0 OK ATDT2349550 CONNECT 40000 V42bis
max2.ALG-Denver-MAS.rack6312.SATURN.BBN.COM(BAFTUU.NET)
Login: *myLogin* Password:
L2TP: Starting session Primary server '205.188.70.137'
---------------------------------------------------------------------
At this point, the bottom of the Debug Window says "Starting pppd..." Then it waits a bit and a window pops up that says: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The pppd daemon died unexpectedly! Exit status: 16 See 'man pppd' for an explanation of the error codes or take a look at the kppp FAQ on http://devel-home.kde.org/~kppp/index.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
man pppd reveals that Exit status 16 means that "The link was terminated by the modem hanging up."
Any ideas as to why this might be happening? I read that it could have something to do with kppp and pppd both trying to lock the modem (or something like that), but I don't really know enough to do anything with that info.
Also, please don't just suggest that I forget the modem and get DSL. (I've gotten that response before. If I could afford DSL, I'd already have it.) ;)
