TEL AVIV, ISRAEL : An illustration shows how an Israeli Arrow
anti-ballistic missile is launched from an area south of Tel Aviv 27
August 2001 before it successfully intercepted a target missile, the
Israeli defence ministry said. In the ninth such test, the Hetz (Arrow)
destroyed a Sparrow missile simulating a ballistic Scud over the
Mediterranean Sea, more than 100 kilometers (60 miles) away. The
2.2.-billion-dollar project, launched in 1988 with US funding, was due to
become operational in 1995 but fell well behind schedule.
