Kosovo should stay put

Prime Minister Hashim Thaci says that Kosovo is ready for independence ("Kosovo
is ready," Views, Feb. 6). But so have been Chechnya in Russia, Xinjiang in
China, Kashmir in India, and Mindanao in the Philippines. Like most of the
Albanians of Kosovo, the majority of the populations of these provinces are
Muslim.

If Kosovo becomes independent, how would we resolve the problem of the many
historic Serbian churches, monasteries and other Orthodox Christian holy sites
located there? They cannot be moved to Serbia.

We do not need two independent Albanian states.
