OK, THIS Would Be Worth Watching

With regard to the new CBS "60 Minutes" version of Point/CounterPoint
featuring Bill Clinton and Bob Dole, News & Views reader Brad Mont jokes, "I
understand that Dole's first line on the show will be: 'Bill, you ignorant
slut.'" How appropriate.

Stand By Your Man

"I will stand by Miguel Estrada's side until he is sworn in as a judge."

- President George W. Bush, calling the Democrat filibuster of the nominee a
"disgrace"

That Crazy Aunt in the Basement

Syndicated columnist Helen Thomas, who's been covering the White House since
at least Kennedy's days - if not Lincoln's - got a well-earned presidential
snub during George Bush's Thursday evening press conference.

The aging columnist often appears to be a few fries short of a Happy Meal
with her goofy questions and pronouncements. Plus her remark a few months
ago about George W. being "the worst president in all of American history"
probably hasn't ingratiated her to this White House.

All of which led to relegating Thomas to the back row of the press
conference and a refusal to call on her. Or, as Best of the Web columnist
James Taranto explains, "It's part of the president's project of restoring
dignity to the office."

Bush-Backers

"House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) warned Friday that a war
against Iraq will not be successful unless President Bush has the backing of
Congress and the support of a broad coalition of allies," reported
CNSNews.com yesterday.

Well, in the immortal words of Col. Sherman T. Potter: "Horse-hockey." The
only backing the President needs to successfully defeat Saddam Hussein is
his Oath of Office, the American people and the highly-trained,
highly-skilled, highly-motivated and highly-patriotic men and women of the
U.S. military.

And he has them all...in spades.

With Friends Like These.

"Adding another sticking point to strained relations with the United States,
Germany says its troops will not come to the rescue of American soldiers if
they invade Iraq and face a chemical or biological attack there. German
defense minister Peter Struck said Friday that his forces will only defend
and assist American soldiers and civilians based in Kuwait, where some
German troops are currently stationed.

"German soldiers in Kuwait possess equipment to detect contamination by
biological and chemical weapons. But if the attack takes place in Iraq,
German troops will not go forward to assist U.S. soldiers or their allies."

Let's Not Forget.

"Neither Germany, nor France, nor Russia, nor China was attacked on
September 11, 2001. The United States was."

- Rich Galen, "Mullings," 3/7/03

The Devil Went Down to Baghdad

"I was surfing the other day and saw the face of none other than Baghdad
Sean Penn, the traitorous little Hollywood hotshot who went to Iraq to try
to make America look bad. . . . I got so mad I had to change channels. . . .
How dare you blame Iraq's problems on the U.S.A. and have the nerve to come
back to this country. You should have stayed and used some of the millions
of dollars you've made in this evil nation to help the Iraqi citizens."

- Musician Charlie Daniels (If you liked this little blurb, you're gonna
LOVE his latest rant against the "pitiful, hypocritical, idiotic, spoiled
(Hollywood) mugwumps." Catch it at:

Idiots

"People who argue that war with Iraq would be a distraction from the war on
terrorism are idiots, or think ordinary Americans are. The hunt for
individual terrorists is chiefly an intelligence and law-enforcement
activity. Producing regime change in terrorists states is chiefly a
military activity. There is little overlap between them."

- Columnist, former Marine and Green Beret Jack Kelly

**********************************
Send In the Clowns

"Iraq ordered five human shields out of the country yesterday after a
dispute over where the Western peace activists should deploy to deter any
U.S. military strikes. . . . It was the latest setback to the high-profile
mission to Iraq by peace activists whose visit has been plagued by
infighting, illness and a broken-down red London bus."

- "World Scene," Washington Times, 3/7/03

Wahhhhhhh!

"Showing the cowardice of their deluded convictions, dozens of Americans,
Brits, Canadians and Australians who went to Iraq to protect Saddam
Hussein's regime with their unshaven, Eddie Bauer-clothed bodies are now
fleeing.

"When Iraqi Republican Guards tried to move their pampered Western pawns in
front of nuclear plants and electricity stations in preparation for
impending war, the human shields buckled. Daniel Pepper, a 22-year-old
Pennsylvania student, told the London Sunday Telegraph that he was appalled
when Saddam's soldiers dispatched him to a yucky oil refinery.

"...Oh, dear, and they were having such a blast, these human shields, what
with all the free cigarettes and PlayStations that those nice Iraqi soldiers
had been handing out. How could Saddam have turned so, so inconsiderate? Why
couldn't he just position them somewhere less smoky and more secure -- like
on top of a sofa in a Baghdad hospital lounge or behind the toy chest in a
day-care playroom? Somebody call a wahmbulance. The pathetic peace-mongers
want to come 'home.'"

- Columnist Michele Malkin

Depends on Your Definition of "15 Days"

"Remember that in 1991, Iraq was originally told to disarm completely
'within 15 days.' Yet, 12 years later, this demand is still being stretched
into infinity."

- Columnist Andrew Sullivan

**********************************
Selective Outrage

"The new 'peace' movement has already attracted some 30 million people in
600 cities in 25 countries. Interestingly enough, there were no 'peace'
demonstrations when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990."

- Columnist Arnaud de Borchgrave

**********************************
The World Will Be a Safer Place

"Use of weapons of mass destruction by Saddam loyalists remains the biggest
concern, not only to U.S. forces but Iraq's neighbors and the Iraqi people.
Such weapons, however, are an existing threat that eliminating Saddam
diminishes."

- Columnist Austin Bay

**********************************
Hawks of Convenience

"Having lost the Congressional vote and public debate on Iraq, some
Democrats figure that North Korea is their opening to assail Mr. Bush's
foreign policy. Thus we have the spectacle of Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd,
who worry not at all about Saddam getting nuclear weapons, now thundering
that North Korea is the 'more immediate threat.' These are doves wearing
press-on hawk talons for the TV cameras."

- OpinionJournal.com, 3/7/03

**********************************
The Main Event

"The coming battle with Iraq is Stalingrad for the terrorist chieftains. If
they lose it, they're toast, and they know it. If Saddam Hussein is ousted,
the terrorists will lose arguably their No. 1 state sponsor; land
communication between Iran and Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon will be
broken; Iran will be surrounded by secular, pro-Western Muslim states and be
ripe for regime change from within. Syria and Libya will become more
nervous about sheltering terrorists.

"The fight against Saddam Hussein isn't a distraction from the war on
terror. It is the main event."

- Columnist, former Marine and Green Beret Jack Kelly

**********************************
Time to Pull the Trigger

"Every day the president delays (launching the attack on Saddam Hussein) is
a day enabling the 'peace' protests to expand."

- Wesley Pruden, "Pruden On Politics," 3/7/03
