Kerry,
I have a 650 and have had the same type of trouble you describe.  It
is electrical and very frustrating to figure out.  I found an area
behind the main fuse compartment below your headlight where if I
wiggled the wires going into the fuse junction box I could replicate
some type of loose connection or wire.  Check that area out to see if
this is your problem also.
