Graham,

My wife's a very fair-skinned nordic type and she prefers rain and cooler
weather. Beaches and boats are not her thing. So, with only three big
cities in the country, Christchurch was the one. And, we love it there.

When I first visited NZ in 2003/4, I rented a camper van and drove it right
around the N.I. following the coastline. Tauranga to Auckland, then
Hamilton, New Plymouth, Wellington, Gisbourne, Tauranga, Auckland and then
back to Tauranga. I arrived and departed on a freighter - hence Tauranga.
I stayed at beach camps along the way for the most part and met a lot of
great folks. I spent New Years in Gisbourne and I've got a rock here on my
desk just now from the East Cape.

If my wife wasn't sun-adverse, I might have considered settling near
Tauranga or Auckland.

Cheers,

Dennis Gallagher

Dennis, I'm in PA. My wife is from this area. I would like to get back
there this year for a visit but may not ($$). I usually get back there
every two or three years for a visit. I first rode Hondas growing up in
Hamilton (N.Is). My sister lives in Tauranga and a brother near Gisborne.
He's a shepherd with 8,000 sheep (a real woolly headed bloke). Why
Christchurch? Graham
