If the paint is not too oxidized, use some Meguiar Fine Cut Cleaner; if you are
not familiar with machine buffing, then do it by hand. If it is plenty
oxidized, use medium cut cleaner, then follow up with fine cut.
Then use some of their caranuba waX, or a polymer coating.
Polymer "waxes" don't last longer than caranuba, but they don't melt in the
sun.  You may have seen the demonstration of the fire on top of the treated
section; well, it is really true that it can be unscathed; but, you notice they
didn't leave it on for a very extended amount of time.  It does demonstrate
that it doesn't melt in the heat.  Wax does and if there is road grime on the
top of it, it will mix with the melted wax and become dull and dingy.

Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] New Member Introduction

My name is Chris Sheafer and I live in Olathe, KS

Bought my first bike September 2008.
1983 Honda 650 SC Nighthawk.

Got it for my 49th birthday.

It is in great running condition although it could use some new paint.
It has 22000 miles on it.

Don't know much of anything about bikes.

I do have a question about GAS STAINS. In one of the pics shows the
gas stain.
Is there anything I can do aside from repainting?

Great site, thanks!
