I would've needed a really good reason to replace those, I hope you did. Like a no charging condition. Whatever... you did. I'll switch PC's later on tonight and forward a URL to obtain a Honda shop manual for free for that series of bikes. I'll download it too, but from work because of it's size. (132meg, work uses a great net connection) ) we no longer have the paper manual for those, don't know what happened to it. I also have a service manual (on paper) that came out back in '79 just for the electrical system of 400's. I'm sure we'll come up with an answer for you. Provided parts can be obtained from some source, you should be OK. They were largely trouble free back in the day. Like I said, hunker down and prepare to spend some time with this. I haven't worked on one of those in more years than I care to remember. Let me study the service guide and get the manual, and we'll start. You'll need a VOM and a few small tools.

I replaced the stator and coil myself ~ but honestly, the electrical is confusing me. I do have excellent help on call for things that get out of my abilities. What should I try first? And by the way, thank you for responding~ T On Apr 17, 9:12 pm, Dennis Hammerl <[email protected]> wrote: > That's a nice brain teaser. Without knowing your skill level I will start by asking if you do your own work or farm it out ? The 400T has a very different ignition system from most. At 29 years old a lot of different possibilities exist. We can check each one. The process will be slow, bear with it. I doubt if many dealerships have anybody knowledgeable on those bikes. > > --- On Fri, 4/17/09, galleywench <[email protected]> wrote: > From: galleywench <[email protected]> > Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] Coil keeps quiting.... why?
