Good clear pics, thanx.  Still not obvious, though, if there's a
gasket or o-ring in the vicinity of the leak.  I'm thinking maybe the
screen may be clogged, thereby backing up a minute amount of fuel to
the big nut on top and allowing it to sweat from there.

I expect I'll have to disassemble and rebuild like you did to solve
the problem.   The teflon tape trick was my first thought, but the
idea smacked of "ethnic fabrication" so I discarded that notion.  Fix
will require draining the tank either way, so may as well do it right.
