The original tool kit is just a bare minimum set and not very good
quality. It's designed for breakdowns on the road. It's main
advantage is that it tucks away easily under your seat and has most of
the wrench sizes to fit nuts and bolts on your bike.

It does have one special tool in it that's worthwhile. It's the large
"spanner" with a kind of hook on it that's used for changing the
firmness (preload) settings on your rear shock absorbers.

Any of the rest you can find cheaper and of better quality at Walmart,
Northern Tool or Harbor Freight. Any of the online motorcycle parts
suppliers that offer exploded views of OEM parts also sell that kit
brand new for about $48. My favorite is Bike Bandit. They are a
little pricey, but their response time and shipping are excellent.
I've ordered items from them and have had them in my hand as fast as
two days.

Don't know if any of the tools will allow you to change your oil.
I've never actually had to use my kit. I just carry it around under
the seat, just in case. Your best bet for oil changes is a ratchet
wrench with extensions long enough to reach through your exhaust pipes
to the oil drain bolt and to the filter (buy the type filters that
have the nut built into the top of the canister) and a set of metric
sockets.
