I think you run your rear brakes too tight. A long ride on a tight set-up would cause wear, short trips don't. Try at least a one inch drop before take-up. When they are tight, as the rear suspension moves up and down, it applies the brake. Two-up makes it worse.

If there is still enough pad left clean them with the brake-clean (including the inside drum of course) and re-assemble.
