On the transmission clunk; yes, they are a bit clunky. Yamaha's shift much better but then they don't stop very good. Check the condition of the brass bushing in the clutch lever that pushes in the piston in the master cylinder. They wear and don't push far enough to disengage the clutch. Remove it and look at it closely. I use MMO in my oil to make it shift better and keep my tappets from tapping. The secret to any shifting problems is to first make sure the clutch is actually opening when you want it to. Towards the end of the week, if the kid still has it...it'll be cheaper. I bought a Saab turbo that way. $5500 on Sunday.>.By Friday, $3600. Owner leaving for Norway (home) on Saturday. Pretty car, silver 900T. I had it for years

I really don't need it as another project. I have other bikes here to work on and this afternoon I just picked up a 1983 Suzuki GS650L. I really like the 80's GS Suzukis, particularly the 650's on up. This one was owned by an older guy who was too old to ride any more. He kept it in good shape and I drove it home.Back to the 700. I think I will check back with him on Wednesday and if he still has it -maybe offer him $300. I have a side cover for it, a seat and 2 windshields. Now to my two 700's. I just took the 84 out for a ride. It has more power than I imagined but the transmission clunks pretty loud going through the gears. I think the 86 does that too but not as loud. It doesn't do it when it's cold, just as soon as it warms up. Is this normal for these bikes? The 650's don't do it.I haven't done any more on the gear indicator problem yet. I'll look at the one on the 84 and if that doesn't help I'll send you pics. I do need the switch assembly and that other little shaft dodad at least. Thanks again Dennis, Graham On Sep 6, 2009, at 4:04 PM, Dennis Hammerl wrote: I just got back from looking at it. (3:52) Can you say rat with a capital R ? Rear tire is new, pipes might clean up OK. EVERYTHING needs paint. No dings but no paint on anything either. Windshield is a cloud. Turn signal stays broken, seat a mess. 24k miles showing. head cover oil leak, Fork seals too. I didn't hear it run, or look in gas tank. Needs battery, carb clean (he says) No left side cover. Hope you buy elbow grease in 55 gallon drums. You'll need it. Owned by a college student in search of himself.. typical Lehigh student. Living in a commune with other liberals of like mind.. like totally awesome.. Americore volunteer. Would I buy it ? No. But then I don't have a need for such a bike or a project. You have much more ambition than I do. Bottom line; you'll spend more time than money on this. Take a jump-pack and start it. Look in the tank. The rest you know. --- On Sun, 9/6/09, Graham Rogers <[email protected]> wrote: From: Graham Rogers <[email protected]> Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] Graham's '84 700 in Bethlehem To: [email protected] Date: Sunday, September 6, 2009, 1:57 PM Dennis, did you get my messages about the NH in Bethlehem?
