Have you looked at an exploded view at a parts site on-line. I think that the internal spacer is missing. Check and see if all the parts are there and are "there"

This thing keeps breaking speedometer drives I have tried a diffrent cable unhooking it from the speedo to take the speedo completely out of it & this thing breaks the tab where the cable hooks on to within a mile with out the speedo even hooked up just the cable attached to it. I was thinking maybe wheel bearings but they dont really feel bad.
