About the blue smoke:  it could be either valve stem seals/guides, or rings;
depends on if it smokes more when accelerating from idle and then quits (valve
stem seals/guides), or smokes under hard acceleration, and doesn't quit(rings).
I would hope that it's in the head and not the rings, but that would depend,
more or less, on how well (probably not very) it was cared for.  If it's the
rings, that would be a complete teardown...

I have a chance to buy two 650 Nighthawks all of a sudden. One has 75,000 miles
on it but smokes blue smoke. We know what that means....she's in need of a
valve job which is an engine tear-down. It's otherwise a very clean and
complete bike with all of the parts (he says). The other bike I am going to
look at on Friday. It runs good from what I hear, is complete, but needs tires.
$300.00 for that one. I'll take photos and let you guys know what becomes of it
all. HotrodMamma.
