About the blue smoke: it could be either valve stem seals/guides, or rings; depends on if it smokes more when accelerating from idle and then quits (valve stem seals/guides), or smokes under hard acceleration, and doesn't quit(rings). I would hope that it's in the head and not the rings, but that would depend, more or less, on how well (probably not very) it was cared for. If it's the rings, that would be a complete teardown...
