I talked to the current owner about the bike. He bought it off of the original owner, a Japanese engineer. The bike was well cared for and came from SoCal. He says it's cosmetically perfect. I'll have to go ride it to diagnose further. For the price it may not matter...it has crash bars, Honda-line highway pegs and a seat (which I need). Thanks for the information Stanley!

About the blue smoke: it could be either valve stem seals/guides, or rings; depends on if it smokes more when accelerating from idle and then quits (valve stem seals/guides), or smokes under hard acceleration, and doesn't quit(rings).
