Thanks Dennis....I weigh 170 and ride mainly on 4 lanes and some occasional
twisties in the mountains north of Atlanta. I have a Clymer but it doesn't go
up to 2003 and apparently the earlier bikes had a plug on the fork down near
the axle. Consequently, do you have a suggestion for finding info on how to
change the fork oil on this particular model? I would be most appreciative.

Of and by itself, using all of the travel available is not a bad thing.
Remember if you were motocrossing, the object would be to use 99% of it every
lap. Less and it would be too hard, more and it would be too soft. I don't know
anything about how much you weigh or how you ride nor what the roads are like
where you are. If you feel it's too soft or tuning would help with control,
that can be addressed. Stiffening a front end can have bad side effects. The
operative word is compliant when dealing with suspension. Removal is not needed
to change fork oil. IMHO; the later versions of Nighthawks have soft
suspensions. I would tailor one for myself. Oil viscosity only changes
compliance and not travel. For that, you have to alter spring pre-load or rate.
On bikes with air-assist, that can be increased too. The early models have many
adjustments to tune suspension. The later versions gave these things up along
with many other features as cost cutting measures.

  I've got a 750 2003 Nighthawk that I recently purchased from a dealership.
It's got 5000k miles on it. Uncertain as to if or when the fork oil has been
changed or is the right weight. I put some zip ties on the forks and measured
the travel after a day of riding (including speed bumps) and it topped out at 3
and 3/4 inches. Does this seem about right or do I need to add a heavier oil.
On this model there doesn't appear to be drain plugs at the bottom so it would
appear that I am going to have to remove the forks to change the oil. Any help
would be appreciated. Thanks, Barge

I won't even guess. Just tear-down and find out. Riding it doesn't do it
any good, just makes the bill higher later.

    Hello,

I've recently just picked up an 1986 cb700sc. As I was riding it the
other day and there is a noise coming from the upper left side of the
motor (riders position). The noise is not there at idle, lower middle
or bottom of the throttle and there is no power loss and/or
vibrations. It seems to be there @ 3-5k RPM's. It is not a knocking
sound. To me it sounds as if it has a bad valve or something is
    loose.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Burke
