Next week I hope to have a first hand look at a 83 Hon CB650 with 30K. The current owner tells me of a noise from the engine, perhaps valve lifters or more likely cam chain slack? Although I'm a fair mechanic, I do not want a project. I know that the reputaion of this bike is very good for many years of trouble free reliability. How can I determine what the source of the noise is? If it appears the bike has had reasonable care, should 30K be of concern, I might ride 2K a yr. As I understand it; cam chain noise is a common but seldom serious issue. Input/suggestions appreciated, ride safe!
