Don't want a project ? Pass it by. '83 model has issues with electrical system
and cam chain tensioner. If it's a really nice one and the price is right,
somebody who puts forth some effort would have a great bike. Graham seems to
find all the best ones. They are out there. '85 model is last and best of the
bunch.

Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] 83 CB 650

Next week I hope to have a first hand look at a 83 Hon CB650 with 30K.
The current owner tells me of a noise from the engine, perhaps valve
lifters or more likely cam chain slack? Although I'm a fair mechanic,
I do not want a project. I know that the reputaion of this bike is
very good for many years of trouble free reliability. How can I
determine what the source of the noise is? If it appears the bike has
had reasonable care, should 30K be of concern, I might ride 2K a yr.
As I understand it; cam chain noise is a common but seldom serious
issue. Input/suggestions appreciated, ride safe!
