Yeah those 9.9Mercs are junk. Midway through my time there they switched all the engines from the Evinrudes to those things. They were carbed so lean it required a fasting priest and Popeye to get it to start and it never had enough torque to get the boat up on plane with more than one person in it. The Evinrude would do it with 3 people and a load of gear. They tried swapping the engine on the chase boat to one of those and the 3 of us that had to drive it put up such a fuss that they switched back to the Evinrude. Ohh I loved the sound of that engine.
