IMHO it will cost you more in parts to fix it, if you can get them.  It's
unusual to hear of a NH tranny going, just like it's unusual to hear of a
Beetle
transaxle going.
I power-shifted my Beetle trans regularly, with nary a problem; however, I was
good at it and never miscalculated a shift.  And that was with a better than
stock engine, packing enough power to beat a Mitsubishi with 142 HP, who
recognized my car about six months later and told me of the incident and
accusing me of not hving a stock engine in my car.
It was only a 1776 cc with a high torque cam and dual Weber carbs.  I did a
static balance: rods, pistons, and wrist pins, to within a quarter of a gram.
I
also "cc'd" the heads and made them as equal as possible, off by a  cc or two,
if I can be that accurate with water in the chamber.

It did run smoothly.  One could see daylight under the front tires if I popped
the clutch in 1st without weight in the front end (bag of sand, 50 lbs., x 2).

Dan,
What is the tranny going to cost you total - shipping and such included?
Besides the tranny - what is the condition of the NH?
