I switched both my bikes one being a1979 gs850 tp rotella 5w40 full synthetic without a problem. what you have to be careful of is oils with friction reducers as the will allow the clutch to slip and not engage. that is why the rotella 5w40 works well it is designed for high compression diesel engines and does not contain friction reducers. also any oil that has an api energy conservation rating on it will have friction reducers.
