carbs need cleaning

I'm new to this as well (as in, I took my class last weekend and just got the M on my license on Monday - never ridden before then), and, actually, I think I was #999 to join this group. I also have an '82 750 that I bought a couple of weeks ago. Due to the lousy weather we've had here in Milwaukee this week I've only been able to ride it out once - to and from work - but am looking forward to some warmer, nicer days. Mine needs a little work as there are some dings and rust on it, and the front tire has a slow leak. Primarily, though, it bothers me that I have to keep it fully choked in order for it to keep running. Even after it's warmed up, if I take the choke off it idles too low and dies. I'm not sure how well it was maintained by the previous owners, and I hear that it was kept outside at least last winter (in Michigan). I plan on changing the oil and getting a new filter before I ride too much more, and put new gas and added Seafoam to it. As time, money and motivation allow I'll start working on some other things - like replacing the exhaust. For that matter, anyone have suggestions on the quietest exhaust system available for an '82 750? When it comes to automotive, particularly motorcycles, I'm completely in the dark.
