Bobby,
When I was riding my 450 Nighthawk I once did 375 miles in one day.
It was completely and totally exhausting. I was completely wiped - I
literally walked up the stairs to my apartment groaning with each step.
This year I'm riding a 78 Suzuki GS-1000. The bike has almost triple
the horsepower, torque is much increased, a fairing and windshield along
with highway pegs. It is superior in every way I can think of as a long
distance bike.
         Now I can honestly say I've never ridden a 750 NH - but - I doubt
that with a windshield bags etc there is little you could do besides a full
touring conversion that would make it as comfortable as the GS-1000 I've
got.
Now that I've tooted my own horn - I was able to ride that 450
miles partially because I kept stopping, more frequently as the day went on.
About 1/3 of the mileage was done on the highway and ironically, despite the
higher speed, the additional vibration and engine noise caused by that
higher speed actually wore me out faster. Your mileage may vary :-)
I've been considering a road trip to Graham's house (with notice so
his wife can flee first :-)) over 600 miles from my house. It isn't actually
the mileage that concerns me - its the time - 14 hours. I don't think I
could stand being on the bike for that long. I've done it in a car, but I
can honestly say it was exhausting.
Keep in mind I did 450 miles in one day - then 0 the next day -
gave me a chance to rest. If you were to split the 950 into two days, you
might find the second day unbearable. If it were me - I'd split it into
three. Give you a chance to see some sites, play tourist.
         Just a thought.
The Iron Butt guys now have a lot more respect from me!
       -Joey
