You could always try hooking up a manual pressure gauge.

Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: oil light stays on I am stumped

Thankjs for the links James.

I forgot to tell you that this is my first bike ever. I have never
ridden before.

I never run this bike more than about 10 sec to do any tests because
the oil pressure warning indicator light stays on. I will not run it
until is seases. I can not afford to lose an engine at this point. I
have had the bike for 4 months and have not ridden her yet. First I
started replacing parts and cleaning the carbs as needed. I sined up
for and took a riding course and passed with no errors on both the
written and the ridding tests. By that time I was just finishing
putting the motor in (bad bearing in first motor) while waiting for
more parts. Then I got the parts got her all back together and the oil
warning indicator light came on after runing for about 1 min.

As the FSM states "check that the oil pressure warning indacator
should go out after one or two seconds. If the oil pressure warning
indicator stays on, STOP the engine immediately and determine the
cause." Although it does not say what to check to determine the cause.

When I did the wire check the light stays on when it is connected when
it is not conneted and when it is grounded.

I will take the valve cover off later tonight to see if oil is
flowing. I will let the group know wjhat happens by Monday.

thank you again for any help
