In the UK we have to wear both seatbelts and helmets [and approved helmets]
by law. Now on the whole I agree ... for instance my bluetooth enabled
helmet is very cool for obvious reasons :) But I have also ridden without
and its rather nice to say the least especially in a large group that was
protesting the law many yrs ago. The simple fact is if you come off and hit
your head at 30mph it aint going to be good without protection - with
protection - you'll likely live!
Seatbelts - good to - but the simple lap and shoulder type are really crap
if you have an accident for whiplash reasons - much better would be 3 or 4
point belts so both halves of your body stay put in a shunt! I know and it
still plays me up. Got really mixed feelings on the whole vis freedom of
action and safety ... but beware the safety fanatics over here after they
were done congratulating themselves on helmets moved on to leg protectors
[that were very soon shown to be anything but ] and were defeated ... but
give em a chance and they'l be after something else to screw up our hobby -
if they could get away with it we'd all be wearing dayglo green reflective
suits and so forth. Now some may want to but I like my black leathers. I
also don't like compulsory running lights ... the fascists are out there -
beware but be safe. So protest all the restrictions ... it's the future ones
that concern me most!
