Yeah - at the expense of the screwdriver.  But, it matters less, if one is 
using a bit in a hex drive drive instead of a regular screwdriver.
Bits are around 50¢ for a good one.

Old-timers tip:

A dab of valve grinding paste in the slots of phillips head screws
will give your screwdriver more "traction" with less chance of bunging
up the screwheads.
