You would probably do better with the OEM tire size. People have different
opinions on using slightly wider tires. Using a wider tire than stock usually
makes for a rounder profile and increased circumference because the tire is
pinched more. This can make the bike turn in faster, but gives a smaller
contact patch. However if the tire isn't pinched enough then it will be flatter
and turn in slower, but the contact patch will be larger. The real reason
bigger/newer bikes have wide tires is because of their power. They need the
larger contact patch. Your 450 won't have enough power to require a larger rear
tire. It probably has on because the PO thought it looked better. That's my

Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] One more problem

I need a rear tire on my 1986 Nighthawk 450 The specks on the
computer say it takes a 130/90-16 But the tire on the bike is a
140/90-16. Now, The 130/90-16 is much cheaper to buy.
Can I go back to the 130 with no problems and use the same rim.? Or
has there been a change made and I should use the 14/90-16 thanks for
the help. Fred
