Actually, maintenance is rather low. Check the oil, coolant and go. I've had all the pieces off a couple of times to add mods and had very little trouble, and I'm not a "wrench". It's more trouble to get the valve cover off my '85 CB650SC. And it's a great touring bike. And I'm 82 now.
