Have to say I agree with this surfswab. I don't know of anything that calls me more into the present moment than riding unless it is the few seconds of orgasm I experience periodically. But, in the case of riding, it is all about paying attention; to simple survival. When it's working right, it feels like you're doing sports and everything is "In the zone". But just let your attention slip for the smallest moment and you are likely to look up and find everything in front of you has changed in an instant. I don't know if it's true but I think I can 'feel' what someone is doing on the side of the road ahead of me. Do they see me? Are they thinking of pulling out? Are they not paying attention? It's the same with the cars to the side of me. Hunches, intuitions, ways of reading things that come in way below conscious analysis. it's all there and the more years one rides, the more honed they get.
