When I owned my own rep business in California, I bought the cheapy, special price leader 1990 Nissan pick up. No radio, no AC. It was stick shift. I was so good at driving it I could shift, gears, light the turn signal while on an old brick type celluar phone and take notes. Some use of the LH was required to shift. Probably not the greatest thing to do but i was younger and more nimble.

Joey,I have lived in countries where 99% of the cars are manual transmission, and yet people manage to play with the radio, gps, cellphone, themselves, etc.Javier.--

I have long maintained that the automatic transmission was the start of the 'disconnect' between people who drive cars and 'DRIVERS' - ie - You've got to pay attention when you're shifting, but when you're not shifting, you have time to play with the radio, the GPS navigation system, cell phone, etc.My first three vehicles with four wheels were stick shifts - as was my Fiancee's first car. (She still has it) She has made the decision that she 'wouldn't want to be without it'. It provides control under went and slippery conditions, something we have a lot of up here in the snow belt, since ABS will help you stop, but isn't so much about getting you going. My current four wheeled ride is an auto - I wish it wasn't.It seems that the trend in vehicles is more autos - not necessarily CVTs but certainly automatics. It makes finding a stick relatively difficult if you're looking on the used market, particularly if you're both in a hurry and on a budget. As to how would I react to an automatic bike - I think I would react much like the rest of you on this thread - it just seems wrong. That having been said more motorcyclists is a good thing - but - it just seems to me if you're willing to carve a turn you want to shift while doing it.-Joey--

All mine are auto. I wouldn't mind a stick shift. However, I get whatever car is left when everyone in the house chooses theirs for the day. My NH is the only thing I can claim as mine!!!

Might not be permitted under the rules, yet.Don't get me wrong, I am on your side; I would much rather ride something that I have to shift than something that does it for me.But the fact is that in certain performance aspects, the DCT is -clearly- superior, and unfortunately those aspects are also ones that appeal to lots of squids, who buy lots of new bikes. Which means that it's a matter of time before a DCT option makes greater penetration in the market. I just hope it won't be too big a share...-Kurt

Until Honda puts it on their moto GP bike I'll stand on it isn't better than a clutch and an air shifter.--
