Just another piece of the puzzle: keep in mind that many people on
here will tell you that the bike can be saved, based upon the fact that
they know how to replace the parts themselves. For instance, Graham or
Allen will gladly tear into a bike project and make it better. Myself?
Well, I prefer to get it done by someone who knows what they are doing,
since I am usually floundering around. So 'can it be saved' yes - 'is it
worth it' - well that has two answers, one is the price for you to do it
yourself, (lower) and the price to have someone else do it. (higher) The
reality is that if the bike being 22 years old has enough damage to it,
cosmetic or otherwise, the price to fix it may be more than you could find
another one for. Say the bike is worth $3000 (ballpark) when its in perfect
condition - if you have to put $2000 into it to make it that condition,
would you want to and would it be 'worth it'. None of that is something
that anyone else can decide for you.
