The short story is I have a '96 750 Nighthawk. 51,000 miles. I know the starter went out awhile ago. I have been lazy, been meaning to repair or replace. I can jump start the bike so it gets me where I need to go. (Put in N, run a short distance, pop clutch up to 2nd.) Since I ride everywhere, my bike is my only transportation, I have found that I actually like not having a working starter. My thinking is that it is a theft deterrent.
