Ok so the Solenoid fuse has been replaced, I still get a single click from the solenoid and nothing coming out towards the starter per the voltmeter and the starter. I feel the starter circuit has to be good or I would not hear the click when I engage the starter button. So I'm back to thinking its the solenoid. So I have one of those on order. This is one of those times where having a spare parts bike might have saved me some time, trouble and a few bucks. Good news is the solenoid is coming with the new cable I need to the battery because mine is 30 years old and junk.

I'm guessing these are the ones under the plastic flap. At this point the solenoid should actuate causing connectivity across the large terminals. Can anyone conform for me the smaller terminals are the small phillips head screws under the plastic flap please? Only issue is I don't recall seeing any such "small wire to ground". I will go grab the Clymer and begin my search unless someone can enlighten me. Thanks Mike -----Original Message----- From: Hanghank <[email protected]> To: nighthawk_lovers <[email protected]> Sent: Fri, Sep 20, 2013 5:35 pm Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] Starter Failure Have you checked with a voltmeter to see if voltage is present at the solenoid circuit (the small wire to ground) when the key is on, the bike is in neutral, the kill switch is off, and the starter button is depressed? Jumping the solenoid only shows that either the solenoid OR the starter circuit is faulty, not which one. From: [email protected] Sent: Friday, September 20, 2013 4:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Fwd: [Nighthawk Lovers] Starter Failure Good news. When I jumper around the solenoid the starter turns over even with the junk battery. So now I need a solenoid, the battery cable from the battery to the solenoid is junk too, so I have to get one made, make one myself or break down and order that too. The prices for the terminal covers seems a tad high, does anyone have any recommendations for cheap but safe alternatives to solenoid and cable / covers replacements? I typically buy the parts from the local Powersports shop but this loks like its gonna run me well over $100. I'll start checking Ebay tonight for a solenoid I guess.
