Here is what I gathered so far, some facts may be right, some wrong, but
here goes:

The bikers were coming from all over NY to an event that would end up at
Times Square.
The event wasn't city sanctioned and the cops caught wind of it via social
media and had checkpoints set up throughout the city, mostly around Times
Square.
On the way to the event some bikers were riding like hooligans. As Javier
pointed out, some weren't even street legal.
On one stretch of freeway a group had a wall of bikers in the rear slowing
down to hold back traffic in order to free up the roadway ahead for stunts
and other foolishment.
One of the vehicles behind this wall of slow riders was the black Range
Rover from the video. There's no evidence but it's possible that RR driver
was getting impatient with the slower riders and possibly following too
closely.
Some reports say that at this time the driver *CALLED 911* to report the
bikers erratic riding behavior. It doesn't say how long 911 was on the line
for.
The rider on the white bike in the video intentionally brake checked the RR
in an attempt to slow him down and make him back off.
The RR didn't stop in time and clipped the white bike. The bike didn't go
down and the rider pulled away easily, however this sparked the
confrontation.
The bikers then surrounded the RR and force it to a standstill, at this
point the web cam is too far away to see clearly what is happening but the
reports are that the riders were denting the truck with their helmets and
reportedly slashing the tires of the RR with a knife. It doesn't seem to be
stopped long enough for all of this to happen, but again, the video isn't
clear at that point.
The RR driver fears for his family's safety and mashes the gas in a panic
in order to flee, running the bikes and riders immediately in front of the
vehicle over.
The riders then give chase to the vehicle, at one point stopping it again
where they manage to get a door open before the driver escapes again, this
time avoiding all bikes. The fact that he avoids the bikes on the second
fleeing attempt tells me that he doesn't want to hurt the bikers and had no
choice in the first instance.
The riders finally corner the RR behind traffic and smash the windows of
the truck, pull the driver from the vehicle and assault him.
The riders then flee before police can arrive.
