So, to make sure I understand the problem: Initially, your headlight would come on w/ the key, but after you hit the starter button it went off and would stay off. (Did it do this multiple times, or did it never light again after that?)
You replaced a large number of parts (Do you have a wiring diagram, multimeter, etc?) It now sits at no headlight at any time, and now no starter engagement, correct? I imagine this is two different problems. The starter is likely to be either the solenoid or an internal brush fault with the starter, if it's not a simple matter of a wire being disconnected somewhere. My advice to you at this moment it take a moment, step back, breath a little. Find yourself a good wiring diagram (I scanned and colourized one here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5rhwMkJQ5ORakJxZnk2UlZCS0U ). Look over the connections from the battery to the headlight, become familiar with its path, then start at the battery and work your way through the circuit with a multimeter until you find the point where you lose voltage. It sounds dumb but make sure the headlight lamp itself isn't burned out; I've been caught out by stupid crap like that many a time, you feel like an idiot but it's great having it working again. For the starter, same idea. Familiarize yourself with the path that current needs to travel to engage the starter. Follow that path with your probes, looking for where you lose voltage. If you have a service manual follow the troubleshooting steps listed in the appropriate sections; they're surprisingly helpful. -Kurt On Sat, Nov 16, 2013 at 3:54 PM, Paul Bellefontaine <[email protected]>wrote: > > > I have a 1983 CB650SC that I have restored it took me 5 years and I have > put over 40,000 miles on it ,well about a month ago my head light would go > off when I start the bike and stay off ! > So I replace the whole wiring harness , left and right controls, fuse > box, ground wire, ignition switch and now the head light does not come on at > all and the zero power to the starter.
